This incident took place on January 6 1957. It was one of the most popular yet confusing bizarre that was created by television history. It was considered as a censorship act. Elvis Presley wasn’t filmed below the waist.
Why was there a total nuisance created by a 22-year-old clothed man’s lower half? It is still hard to swallow that in! We live in a generation where everything is acceptable. The term serial murders, online porn, 2 Girls 1 Cup, etc. etc. etc. are quite common for us.
Saying that, back in the 1950s, there were quite famous singers who took away the stage like a tornado. Elvis, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and Dean Martin, to name a few!
Elvis, the hip-shaking kid who was from Mississippi, took over the world’s attention within no time.
Which show was the most loved by the American audience?
Back in 1956, “The Ed Sullivan Show” was one of the most loved by the American audience. Two of the massive forces had to meet, which then became a show business legend.
Ed always was of the thought not to invite Elvis on the show. But, Elvis was the name in the ’50s. That is why Sullivan had to call him.
Elvis got on the Sullivan Show on the date September 9, 1956. It was hosted by Charles Laughton, who often called Elvis as “Elvin” Presley. There was a record audience of 60 million who wanted to watch him on the show.
On October 28, 1956, Elvis again appeared on the show in which he had a new pair of styles. Both of them were huge and grabbed a lot of audience attention, but, the most fab one was still not featured.
There was a considerable stir caused when Elvis swiveled his hips and gyrated the body movements in his two appearances. A group of concerned persons were against this and railed out for the world’s youth benefit.
Coming to his 3rd and the last appearance on the Sullivan Show, his below waist was not photographed. While the creators were in thought that they made the adults feel good, the children of America loved to enjoy the half of their affirmed idol.
On this legendary night, that was not shot from anywhere below the waist. Elvis chose a gospel number that night, which was one of his favorites. He was one man who would read the bible and rarely drank any alcohol drink.
After this show was shot, Sullivan spoke and told the TV audience that ‘Elvis is a real fine boy.’ It more seemed liked to be an abbreviation and reassurance for the nation’s adult.
When we watch the old black and white film, it is quite amusing to us, isn’t it?
The whole Elvis incidence would solely bring all of us to laugh. But do we really need to care a fuss about that? His performance was still great but shocking to be added!
Like we are finding it amusing, have you ever thought what our future generation would think about our shows? The world will never ever remain the same!
